Outdoor Sauna in Bergen — Heit Sauna Experience

For a truly Nordic way to end your Bergen adventure, step into a fjords-side outdoor sauna. At Heit Bergen Sauna you’ll enjoy exclusive use of a cosy wooden sauna with incredible views of the city and the water.

Location of Heit Bergen Sauna

Heit Bergen Sauna operates at a couple of sites. We booked the one closest to the city at broads.tickles.tech (what3words). Here you’ll find two saunas:

  • A smaller sauna facing the bridge
  • A slightly larger sauna facing away, with open views across the fjord
We booked in advance for Heit Bergen Sauna, which was certainly an interesting treat at the end of our break. These saunas are available at a couple of locations and we chose the one nearest the city (broads.tickles.tech) where they have 2 saunas.

What the sauna experience is like

After checking in, you can change in small facilities on land before walking along a wooden jetty to your private sauna cabin. Each booking gives you exclusive use for one hour, making it a peaceful and intimate experience.

The saunas themselves are simple but inviting, with wooden benches, big glass windows, and the warmth of a traditional wood-fired stove. Inside, you’ll find a toasty escape from the cool evening air while still gazing out across the water and city lights.

Taking the plunge into the fjord

For the full Nordic wellness tradition, step outside your sauna and plunge into the fjord before warming up again inside. With snow on the jetty and 2°C air, it’s not for the faint-hearted — but many visitors swear by the rush of energy and sense of calm it brings.

When you get too hot you can jump into the Fjord, but with snow on the jetty and not being used to the cold water experience we weren't brave enough and simply stood in the 2c air taking in the amazing evening view of the city to end our weekend away in Bergen.

Tips for your sauna visit

  • Book in advance — Saunas are popular and time slots often sell out.
  • Bring swimwear if you want to try the fjord plunge.
  • Towels are provided but check your booking details in advance.
  • Go at sunset for magical views over Bergen’s harbour lights.
  • Stay hydrated — bring a bottle of water for after your sauna.
